The One Thing People Tend To Regret When Buying A Florida Home

by Linda Whited 12/10/2018

If you’re ready to get out on the house hunt, you may be very excited to find the Florida home of your dreams. If the housing market is yielding high competition or low inventory, you may find your search a bit difficult. You might have to make many decisions fast when it comes to buying a home. Quick thinking can sometimes lead to buyer’s remorse. Knowing what to expect and what t watch out for before you even set out to find a Florida home can be incredibly helpful. Read on to discover one of the most common regrets of homebuyers and how to avoid it.

Not Researching The Home Or Where It Is

There is much more to a home than meets the eye. If you’re touring many different homes, you may also get the details jumbled up in your mind as to which home has which features. In a tight market, for example, you may think it to be beneficial to skip the home inspection. This is a big mistake. A home inspection not only tells you the quality of a home, but helps you to understand the inner workings of a home. You’ll learn basic things about a property like how the furnace functions and the age of the roof or the plumbing system. While skipping the inspection may give you a leg up against other bidders for a home, you could be stuck with a house that has significant problems you never knew.

The location of a property is just as important as the home itself. You want to know things like:

The quality of the school system

Recreation in the area

How close retail stores and supermarkets are

If the neighborhood has other families with children

In Florida, recreation can be an important point of attraction to a home for many families. How close is a home to good schools? Is the property located near gyms, community centers, or parks? If you love spending time outdoors or if your children are involved in specific activities, not doing your research ahead of time can be detrimental to your property search. You could end up buying a home you love in an area you’re not so thrilled to be living in.

The best way to avoid this type of buyer’s remorse is not to waive the inspection and make a list of what you’re looking for in a location. Don’t glaze over a home, take a close look and ensure that where and what you’re about to purchase is livable for you. Be sure to work closely with your Florida real estate agent to hone in on properties that will be a good fit for you.
